Our Judge
We are pleased to announce our judge: Diane Thompson of Riversong Farms, from Quesnal, B. C. Canada.
Diane Thompson and her husband Dan Workman started Riversong Farms in 1996, after moving to southern Canada from the Arctic. They started raising cashmere goats in 1997 with 10 does and one buck. Now they generally carry between 60-70 does and 8-10 bucks (representing different genetic lines). Diane and Dan like the challenge of producing cashmere, and apply their science backgrounds to their breeding program, and maintaining their herd. Riversong stock has earned a reputation for quality cashmere; year after year their fleeces win top ribbons in the different fleece competitions. Diane started Canadian Cashmere Producers Association in 2005, and remains the President of this vibrant, growing organization. Diane and Dan are very committed to Cashmere goats, and believe strongly in the sustainability and the future of Cashmere goats as a farm animal for both large and small (lifestyle) farms.
Diane is thrilled to have the opportunity to come down and participate in the 2007 NWCA Cashmere Fleece Competition. She is looking forward to meeting all the wonderful people involved in the Cashmere goat industry in the NW US, who she has only met through e-mail or herd of by reputation over the past 10 years.
