Priscilla Dobson Workshops
Faroese Shawl (for a Doll)
Friday, June 12th, 1pm – 4pm
Cost: $30
In this class you will learn to knit a miniature shawl using the construction method created in the Faroe Islands. We will discuss how this method differs from other ethnic shawls. You will get comfortable with using a graph for making the necessary “holes on purpose” (otherwise known as lace). The doll size shawl will enable you to see the structure and how to finish.
As usual, bring your enthusiasm, your knitting tools, paper for notes, and size 7 or 8 circular needles. Materials and instructions will be provided by the teacher.
Exploring Faux Fair Isle
Saturday, June 13th, 9am – 12pm
Cost: $30
Now this is a fun trick and a great looking way to show off color in knitting. “Exploring Faux Fair Isle” will include doing two versions of a Tri-Color Sample which uses 1 color per row, but not cutting the yarn at the end of the row. You will compare the differences and similarities between real Fair Isle knitting, Mosaic knitting and Faux Fair Isle knitting.
Students bring: your enthusiasm along with your regular knitting tools, paper to take notes on, and size 6 circular or double pointed needles. Yarn and instructions for the sampler will be provided.
Priscilla Dobson, one of our knitting instructors from 2003, is returning to the festival to teach 2 new classes this year. Priscilla owned a yarn shop in Vancouver, WA for 7 years and taught classes in a Troutdale, OR yarn shop. She is still teaching a couple of independent groups in the Portland and Gresham area. She is an accomplished knitter, plus a fun teacher. She spins, crochets, and does needle point, but can she juggle? The classes she is presenting will offer a challenge to knitters of all levels. They also offer a jumping off point for you to design for yourself.
