Spinning Your Pets
Saturday 9am-12pm $40
Bring your favorite pet fur, but don’t limit yourself to dog, cat, chinchilla, and angora. For spinning short fibers or feathers, you will blend wool and/or other animal or vegetable fibers. Participants are encouraged to bring bovine, equine or porcine fibers to spin, too. These fibers definitely will add interest to your novelty yarns! You will learn to understand the various properties of these unusual fibers and how to spin them to their advantage to make a fabric which will fit the spinner’s desired end-result. Examples of knitted items made from pet fur will be available, and knitting, felting and weaving with these fibers will be discussed.
Adventurous Beginners to Curious Advanced Spinners should have the very basic understanding and experience of spinning. Must bring a wheel, and the usual spinning accouterments especially hand cards, flick cards, combs, and fibers for blending. Some fiber will be for sale (nominal fee for .5 - 1oz bags), but participants are especially encouraged to bring their own fibers.
