In this fabulous 2 day workshop you will learn an alternative approach to the increasingly popular technique of Nuno Felting or Silk/Wool lamination. Textile artist and designer Melissa Arnold has developed an alternative approach to laminating wool fibers into a silk fabric base.
On Day 1: We will create a small sample of the basic technique and then create a simple scarf using the basic technique and one of the many different design ideas for laminating these two fibers together, using white wool with white silk.
On Day 2: We will learn about dyeing with acid dyes and how to achieve a 2 color combination on our silk and wool using only one dye pot. If time permits, we may be able to do a shibori over-dye.
Experience Level: This class is designed to give the experienced Nuno felter another perspective on this exciting and fabulous art form. Beginners are welcome as well.
Melissa Arnold has been avidly dyeing and creating for well over 30 years. Her “European Apprenticeship” training for 13 years in the field of Dental Technology and her 13 years in the field of Art Conservation have enabled her eye for color and rapt attention to detail. For the last 8 years she has been collaborating with California-based fashion designer Catherine Bacon. In 2005, Melissa took a 5-day intensive workshop with Chad Alice Hagen and in 2006 she took a 5-day intensive with Polly Stirling. She has been madly felting ever since, her approach always as a textile designer and innovator of new ideas and fearless experimentation.
