How to Advertise with BSFAF.

Making Lumpy-Bumpy Yarn
Friday 1pm-4pm $40

There are 2 basic ways of making lumpy bumpy yarn deliberately; creating texture in the singles and texture in the plying. This class will help you do both, including making slubbed and garneted yarns, knot yarns, tufted yarns and snarl yarns. You will also learn some quick tricks with mohair and other “curly” fibers fo get quick designer yarn results. Students must bring a spinning wheel and other normal spinning tools. Materials will be provided and the cost is included in the class fee.

Basic and Shaped Sock Workshop
Saturday 9am-4pm $65

Socks are something that everybody needs but nobody seems to really respect. And such a fun project to knit – fast and portable. Hand knit socks are just wonderful and fit SO well.

Learn to make your first pair of socks and you’ll never be able to stop. OR if you already make socks, learn how to make knee socks that fit – as in Kilt Hose that stay up. Class will cover basic shaping, a heel or two, and tips on what stitch patterns work best if you want to do a pair of kilt hose or other fancy socks.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner – must know how to cast on, cast off, increase & decrease. Students should bring sock yarn and knitting needles to match.

Making Your Own Tools
Sunday 1pm-4pm $45

In this class you will learn about home made fiber tools and actually make some of them! There is no need to spend a great deal of money to get very useable spinning, knitting, and weaving tools. Materials are easily obtainable at hardware stores, lumber yards, craft stores and Walmart! You will make the following tools in class: CD Spindle, Niddy/Noddy -Skein Winder/Yarn Blocker, Nostepinne or Hand Ballwinder, Knitting Needles, Weaving Sticks.

You will learn about making or adapting materials for other tools such as: Knitting Container, Needle Container, Small Tapestry Looms, Blocking Frame for Knitted Lace Shawls, Lazy Kate, Weights for Loom Warp, Kumihimo Stands and Tools, Mini-Hand Cards, Boat Shuttle Bobbins, Two-Row Wool Combs.

All materials and a nice handout will be supplied. You will be sanding and oiling, so if you are messy, wear old clothes.

Suzanne Correira has been knitting professionally for the past 20+ years. She has published patterns with Knitter’s Magazine, Knitting Digest, Threads Magazine and Lion Brand Yarns. She has been spinning, weaving, knitting and raising the fiber animals since 1992 at Fire Ant Ranch, near Austin TX.
